In the CW series 90210, she played the second actress in an anti-heroine role in the year 2008. Though she was considered as a supporting role, she became the series lead role by the end of the first season and was nominated for a Teen Choice Award. During 2009, she received the Hollywood Life Young Superstar. The year 2010 saw her grabbing the Breakthrough Standout Performance award.

McCord admitted that during the year 2014 when she was 18 years of age, she was sexually assaulted by a male known to her.
McCord was in a relationship with Dominic Purcell since 2011. Though they had split in an amicable manner during 2014, the romance between them was reignited when she came closer to him after his serious accident on the movie set.
