Dyson really is quickly becoming one of the most affordable mid to high-end vacuum manufacturers on the market. And I can generally recommend them to most people who vacuum more than once a month as they will pay for themselves over time. A Dyson isn’t all shine and glamour though; they do require a small amount of work to keep them running like new. Luckily unlike many cheaper brands, they can be kept running because they are durable enough to be serviced. Dyson really became famous with their commercials that claimed that they never lose suction. While this is true, it’s kind of tricky advertising. A Dyson never loses suction at the motor, but it can clog and lose suction long before it arrives at the motor. What Dyson is referring to when they say that their vacuums never lose suction is actually their system of multiple suction points. Even their large upright vacuums suction line from the motor splits into several smaller suction points before reaching the dirt cup. This design is ingenious as it not only allows for one port to clog leaving the others free but it truly does create more suction. As we learned in science class fast flowing fluids creates low pressure, and low pressure is what we perceive as suction in a Best Vacuum Under 200. So the idea of necking down the suction tubes to smaller tubes creates very fast moving air, in turn making a huge low-pressure zone, for more suction than your average vacuum. The bad thing about this design is that while it gives several bypasses for clogs it aids in the clogging process with smaller easier to clog tunnels the dirt can potentially travel into. You should watch out for this if you decide to purchase a Dyson.
With that being said this Dyson DC15 truly could last you several years with minimal maintenance. I suggest testing the “ball” feature in person also. While some people love the flexibility and ability to vacuum with very little body movement, some of my customers have complained about a feeling of instability.

This is a review of the new Dyson DC15 the following are some bits of information and features of the Dyson DC15 Ball Vacuum.
Dyson have been hugely successful with their previous offerings like the DC07 and DC14, with huge response from the market and rave reviews from satisfied customers.
Dyson decided to launch a new model, the DC15, and this one has again come with improved features and higher expectations.
The motor of the DC15 is covered with a rubber grooved cover which resembles a ball. But it has additional functions too; it allows the cleaner to pivot and twist with little effort put in by the user.
With high forces of air, this vacuum cleaner pushes the dirt and the debris to the sides of the container. This prevents the mouth from getting choked and the power of suction is maintained.
In fact there are individual cyclonic chambers which suck the air in with such force that the vacuum cleaner doesn’t stop to work even when you use for an extended period of time.
Yet, even with all these improvements and upgrades I still find Dyson to be largely gimmicky. The Dyson DC15 Ball vacuum cleaner though innovative still has several major flaws. First off the multiple cyclonic chambers looks cool, and the idea of having redundant paths to the dust cup is a great idea. Problem is it doesn’t work well. In order for the multiple cyclonic chambers to have any sort of effect you have to have one of two things on your side either A) a very powerful motor, or B) very small holes accessing the cyclonic chambers. As you may well of guessed because of space, monetary, and design limitations Dyson opted to go with the smaller cyclonic chambers. This actually creates more of a bottleneck than they claim it relieves. Slowly over time the chambers still clog reducing suction power.
The HEPA filters don’t help the suction of your new Dyson DC15 either. Though the HEPA filter does stop most all dust from leaving your vacuum, and they also help reduce the noise level the cost of this feature might be more than you should be willing to pay. Besides the fact that HEPA filters are extremely expensive in order to stop all the dust that they do they must be very dense which slows airflow down to a crawl. This is what I find to be one of the most ironic features of the Dyson vacuum cleaners. Dyson made their way in the Vacuum Cleaner world by advertising that unlike traditional bagged vacuums where dust accumulates in the bag fibers over time and lowers suction power. Yet the entire time that Dyson has been selling their vacuums they have stuck big, clunky, low air-flow filters on them to do exactly what they said their vacuums relieved by being bag less.. only ten times more of a problem. That’s right, you don’t have to wait for a few years for the fibers of the bag on your vacuum to get packed with dirt, you’re paying extra for a filter that is already multiple times denser than the bag on your vacuum will ever become.
For people with dust allergies the HEPA filter is a catch 22 in my opinion too. I’ve talked to a good many doctors, and read many articles about how our too clean environment is actually what is causing us to have more severe allergies and getting sick easier. The human body needs dirt and dust to enter it in order to build up immunities, without it you become hyper sensitive to all sorts of illnesses, and allergens. I’m not saying that dust allergies aren’t real, there are people that if you have to do the vacuuming yourself a vacuum with a HEPA filter would be a good idea so you don’t go into a sneezing fit, or worse end up with airway constriction from an asthma attack. For most of us however, the HEPA filter will do more harm than good.
The designers and engineers at Dyson looked at the way people vacuumed with an upright, and they noticed that to make the cleaner change direction, your body has to change direction, too. This requires your full weight and strength to maintain momentum in the turn, leading to aching arms, back, and, of course, less efficient cleaning–as tight corners and awkward spaces are often missed. The solution to the problem–the DC15 All Floors “The Ball”–is a vacuum with all the right moves to clean your floors with efficiency and grace. The only work required from you is a simple twist of the wrist. Yet as I’ve heard many people complain about the unstable nature of these “Ball” vacuums and how heavy they make them even more difficult to handle than a traditional simple hinged vacuum.
All the Right Moves
The DC15’s motor is mounted inside a ball, which keeps the center of gravity low and the machine light in your hand, while rubber tires prevent slipping. A cleaner head attached to the main vacuum by a single pivot point maintains contact with the floor–even when turning a corner. The low-profile head glides into awkward spaces that are usually missed, like under cabinets and beds. Because the ball can tilt and pivot, unlike conventional wheels, a simple turn of the wrist allows you to steer through a wide arc, making it easy to maneuver around furniture and obstacles. The Dirty Work
When it comes to dirt, the DC15 All Floors cleans like no other vacuum can. A wide channel and a 13-3/5-inch cleaning path ably pick up large debris, while a patented Root8Cyclone system spins air at high speed so dirt and debris are thrown out of the airflow and collected in the bin–not on filters or in bags. In addition, special intake nozzles direct high-velocity airflow down into the carpet pile to dislodge dust. The airflow is continuous even when vacuuming curtains or upholstery–preventing them from becoming stuck to the cleaner. The DC15 Ball is a Residential vacuum designed for use in the Residential environment. I have reviewed it accordingly, the price point of the DC15 Ball is set for the Residential industry which should be taken into consideration when purchasing or thinking about purchasing this vacuum. Commercial vacuum cleaners may be built to last longer and endure more abuse, but are more expensive and may be lacking some of the luxuries (such as light weight, or low noise) that you are accustomed to. On the contrary Residential vacuums are made at lower price points, lower quality, but are often lighter and quieter to use.
